We wrote a blog post back on November 21st titled “Recent Google Changes Make Mobile Sites More Visible Than Ever”. We discussed how Google was starting to tell users which sites were mobile-friendly, and how this could hurt results of websites without mobile features.
Their most recent change will have an even bigger impact. According to Google, “Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results.” Sites without mobile versions will have a major drop in rankings as a result of this change.
Google rarely announces changes like this – they’ve likely done this because of the large number of sites which will disappear from top search results. This change will hurt the search rankings of millions of sites that aren’t mobile-friendly.
The great news is that all customers on our Pro+Mobile, Pro+Connect, and Pro+Engage packages will actually benefit from this change – their sites will replace non-mobile sites on Google’s search engine starting in late April. If you’re not using one of these newer packages, however, we recommend you call us at 855-349-5289 so we can tell you more about what this change means for you and how we can help you move up the rankings instead of down.
